Project 'Heart Smart' was created as an extension of our company philosophy, 'Providing the absolute highest quality Industrial Medical Services in the Province of Alberta.' On.Site is the first and only company to equip ALL of our ambulances with AED’s. Project Heart Smart was designed to do several things:

• An Industry education program formed to decrease fatalities due to cardiac arrest in remotely located worksites.
• To establish local databases on locations of AED’s in remote industrial areas. Providing these local databases with the necessary information to dispatch or access AED equipped ambulances to the location it is needed.
• Essentially creating a ‘First Responder’ program with AED equipped ambulances, similar to EMS systems in large geographic areas.

Program Importance

In the industrial sector the population of workers are generally less than 50 years of age. In most cases cardiac arrest is secondary to other emergencies such as H2S exposure, or traumatic injuries. Once the heart has arrested, the only chance of survival is defibrillation.

Due to these statistics, local EMS services install or design AED programs in their area. The reason these programs are important is a startling and little known fact.

'The chances of surviving a cardiac arrest decreases by 10% per minute from the time of arrest to the time of defibrillation.’ The only definitive treatment for Cardiac Arrest is Defibrillation ! That is why ALL of our ambulances are equipped with an AED’s or higher.
